MAYA
Archers
I'm sad to say the Fred Murphy passed
away this last week. His son, Richard contacted us last Monday
about Fred's passing. We are awaiting to hear when service will
be held. He indicated that it will be in the Sacramento area.
As soon as we know more we notify the membership of the details.
Fred was a longtime member of Maya Bowhunter"s.
He served as President and held several positions in the club.
Fred ran one of the largest and most popular Summer Leagues back
in the 80's. These league numbered over 100 shooters and ran for
16 weeks during the summer. He also ran many Indoor Leagues at
Little John's Archery when the shop was in Orangevale. Fred provided
handmade championship buckles for the Club's Championship... these
were highly coveted among the members. For years Fred was the
leader of the Old Timers at the range and because of this, the
tradition still continues.
Fred was also a true bowhunter... for years he
hunted the Chester area out of a treestand. It was storied that
Fred's treestand was the tallest around the country.
Fred will be missed by our members. He was truly
like a founding father of the Maya Bowhunters.
