May 16, 2003 Robert Cooley Middle School once again held their annual Renaissance Fairfrom
9:30 am until 2:00 pm. Because the event was such a
success and lots of fun last yearseveral other middle schools were
invited to join in this year. It
was even a larger success this year!
Lots of young interest people came through our booth.
There were many different tent/awning like covers circled around
a large field. Volunteers
hosted booths which taught bead necklace/bracelets, candle making
starting with a wick and dipping into paraffin, and much more different
crafts from the past. There was a petting zoo, home make bread and
jelly, strawberry dipping and a variety of other food and beverages
available. Tickets were sold
at .25 each and collected to participate in events.
Participating during the day were lots of kids and adults in
costumes of the time. We even
had Robinhood with us. |

Club members once again came through with teaching Archery for the
entire event. No breaks were noticed as a matter of fact we
had sandwiches, potato salad, strawberries, cookies and beverages
while we helped the kids shoot the bow and arrows.
No time for a break the kids just kept coming. Last year was the first year of this event
and we didn’t charge anything to shoot.
However this year the school wanted us to charge 3 tickets
for shooting. This would earn the school more money and give
them a count of the interest in our booth. We helped out over 300 kids and adults shoot
a bow during the day. It was
fun and we all went home tired. |

| For
this event there is a need of about 8 club members to help one on
one each shooter, someone to keep the line straight, take tickets
etc. Most of the time it means
a volunteer must take a day off work because it’s always on a workday
usually a Friday. For the most
part we have asked retirees because they seem to have a more flexible
schedule. Maya, Robert and
I would like to personally thank the following club members for their
help this year: Linda Musser,
Greg Stoddard, Bob Kreig, and Wes Babcock.
Remember you also get dues credits for participating in these
types of club activities. Other volunteers for us to thank for their
great assistance were Dick and Joey Eckenburg of the Nevada County
Archery Club they were nice enough to help out all day.
After we were done instructing Dick used his metal detector
looking for lost buried arrows in the grass.
Wes also searched for hidden arrows with his metal detector. They even found some of last years lost arrows
in the grass. Erik usually
helps out however he had a important medical appointment so this hear
he couldn’t, however we would like to thank him for the loan of his
arrow holding tubes that were at each shooting position.
They really work great! |

Sacramento Bee and the local Roseville Tribune newspapers reporters
and photographers were present. Robinhood

| If
you think you would like to be paced on a volunteer list for next
year just give Olivia a call at (916) 991-5350.
During the year there are other community events similar to
the one above where archery instruction is needed by club members.
We would love to have all the help we can get.
If you can shoot a bow we can teach you to instruct others. We need to promote our sport and club to its
highest level to make it live forever.
If we don’t help who will? |
